Greater Sudbury has been chosen as the first expansion city by a Toronto-based insurance company. The new Prolink Broker Network office held a grand opening at its new location, 471 Ontario Street on Monday, October 29th. The company is located across from the Riverside medical complex at the corner of Riverside Drive and Regent Street.

“The big thing is local people, local focus, local insurance” says manager/owner Rod LaRocque. “We have a broader range of products and more expertise in terms of reviewing companies and insurance products. We can tailor-make plans, including umbrella plans. If somebody wants to buy a $5 million umbrella for boat, home and life, we can offer it. It’s choice. That’s what we are all about.”

Both the Dundee Insurance Agency and the Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company are partnering with the new office. Gerry Roberts, president of the Prolink Broker Network, said in an interview at the grand opening that Greater Sudbury is the first of many expansion sites the new company is planning. The Ontario Street office which has seven staff members is one of three locations planned for the Greater Sudbury area.

As a result of the grand opening, Prolink Broker Network donated $5,000 to The Human League Association. This non-profit organization sponsors Breakfast Club Programs to over 23 area schools. The money will go to good use in providing 5,000 nutritious breakfasts for local children, which we all know is the most important meal of the day.

ROYAL BANK OF CANADA DONATES $100,000.00
to The Human League Association

ON MARCH 02, 2007, THE ROYAL BANK OF CANADA DONATED $100,000.00 TO OUR ASSOCIATION, TO BE APPLIED TO OUR POPULAR P.L.A.Y. PROGRAM.

The forthcoming dollars are to be spread over a three 3 year period, creating 133 new play spots for kids each year.

The Royal Bank Foundation saw the great need to support our children in active physical participation, allowing them to stay active and grow as healthy, mature young people.

To qualify for funding, stringent regulations will continue to be applied through our funding formula system, with complete confidentiality as to who is registered in the program.

With this program having been available for low-income families, for the past five and one half years, we will be able to increase the number of participants at $200.00 per child.

Royal Bank of Canada through their local branches, collectively, supported our proposal and forwarded it to their head office for selection purposes.

With continued community partnership of the RBC regarding our PLAY Program, their commitment to The Human League Association will be ongoing.

We are forever grateful for their community support as significant business leaders and fulfilling their role as “GOOD CORPORATE CITIZENS” investing in the future development of our youth and children.

Thank you ROYAL BANK FOUNDATION

Rick & Danny McDonald still making a difference in our community!

On behalf of The Rick McDonald Memorial Committee, Corinne Fewster and Sandra Rayner presented a cheque in the amount of $500 to the Human League Association. The money will be used for our P.L.A.Y. Program (Positive Leisure Activities for Youth) and the Breakfast Club for Kids.

Rick McDonald was a former Greater Sudbury Police Sgt. who was tragically killed in July 1999 when he was struck by a teenager driving a stolen minivan in a high-speed chase. In an effort to keep his brother’s name alive within the community, Danny McDonald (Rick’s younger brother) started the Rick McDonald Memorial Ball Tournament which has raised thousands of dollars to-date.

Sadly, in April 2007 Danny was also killed in a tragic motor vehicle accident between Azilda and Chelmsford. Striving to maintain the foundation, Corinne (Rick’s widow) and Sandra (Danny’s fiancée) organized a committee of approximately 10 individuals to oversee the Foundation.

The Human League Association would like to extend their most sincere thank you. Rick and Danny McDonald have once again enriched the lives of children.
